What is PCOD?
Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) is a hormonal and metabolic disease. It is caused when immature eggs that have not matured enough to be ejected out of the body and hence are stuck on the ovary walls. This leads to an imbalance in the hormone levels of the body, These hormones lead to body hair in unwanted places, weight gain, hair loss and other health problems.
Symptoms:
Symptoms of PCOD often start around the time of the first menstrual period. Sometimes symptoms develop later after you have had periods for a while.
The symptoms of PCOD are below -
- Irregular menstruation (Oligomenorrhea)
- Skipped or absence of menstruation (Amenorrhea)
- Heavy menstrual bleeding (Menorrhagia)
- Excessive Hair growth (face, body - including on back, belly, and chest)
- Acne (face, chest, and upper back)
- Weight gain
- Hair loss (hair on the scalp gets thinner and fall out)
- Skin darkening (Neck, in the groin, and under the breasts)
Difference between PCOD and PCOS
A.PCOD doesn’t have any serious complications.
A. PCOS have serious complications such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high-blood pressure
B.PCOD doesn’t affect fertility in women,
B.PCOS seriously affects fertility in women.
C.PCOD is a common disorder.
C.PCOS is a serious medical condition around C.2% to 2.5% of world women population affected by it.
Who suffers from PCOS?
Around 8–13% of reproductive-aged women are suffered by this disease and Up to 70% of affected women remain undiagnosed worldwide.
At least one-third of women worldwide suffer from PCOD, which means pretty common.
Treatments of PCOD:
1. Maintaining healthy body weight.
2. Limiting carbohydrate's consumption, If you have PCOD or PCOS follow a low-carb diet or complex carbohydrates diet that help in maintaining insulin levels.
3. Do regular exercise and be active.
Pelvic examination: Physically checking the reproductive organs for masses, abnormalities, or any growth.
Blood tests: Blood tests will help to understand the hormone levels,
Imaging test: Ultrasound imaging test to check the size of ovaries.
